Detonation wave solutions and linear stability in a four component gas with bimolecular chemical reaction
نویسندگان
چکیده
We consider a four component gas undergoing a bimolecular chemical reaction of type A1 + A2 A3 + A4, described by the Boltzmann equation (BE) for chemically reactive mixtures. We adopt hard-spheres elastic cross sections and modified line-of-centers reactive cross sections depending on both the activation energy and geometry of the reactive collisions. Then we consider the hydrodynamic limit specified by the reactive Euler equations, in an earlier stage of the chemical reaction, when the gas is far from equilibrium (slow chemical reaction). In particular, the rate of the chemical reaction obtained in this limit shows an explicit dependence on the reaction heat and on the activation energy. Starting from this kinetic setting, we study the dynamics of planar detonation waves for the considered reactive gas and characterize the structure of the steady detonation solution. Then, the problem of the hydrodynamic linear stability of the detonation solution is treated, investigating the response of the steady solution to small rear boundary perturbations. A numerical shooting technique is used to determine the unstable modes in a pertinent parametric space for the considered problem. Numerical simulations are performed for the Hydrogen-Oxygen system and some representative results are presented, regarding the steady detonation wave solution and linear stability. F. Based on a general theory of detonation waves with an embedded sonic locus that we have previously developed, we carry out asymptotic analysis of weakly curved slowly varying detonation waves and show that the theory predicts the phenomenon of detonation ignition and failure. The analysis is not restricted to near ChapmanJouguet detonation speeds and is capable of predicting quasi-steady, norma...
متن کاملLinear Stability of a Detonation Wave with a Model Three-Step Chain-Branching Reaction
The linear stability of a planar detonation wave with a three-step chain-branching reaction is studied by a normal mode approsch. The reaction model consists of a chain-initiation step and a chain-branching step governed by Arrhenius kinetics, with a chain-termination step which is independent of temperature. It mimics the essential reaction dynamics of a real chain-branching chemical system. T...
متن کاملSteady detonation problem for slow and fast chemical reactions
Two sets of hydrodynamic equations for a mixture of four gases undergoing a bimolecular chemical reaction are discussed. The former consists in a system of balance laws for the case of a chemical relaxation time of the same order of the macroscopic processes (slow reaction). Conversely, the latter is a system of conservation laws for the case of short chemical relaxation time (fast reaction). A...

The structure and linear stability of the one-dimensional steady overdriven detonation wave supported by a chemical reaction of type A + A ⇋ B + B are examined in the frame of the Boltzmann equation extended to chemically reacting gases. The structure of the steady wave solution is determined solving the system of the Rankine-Hugoniot conditions supplemented with the rate law, in a chemical reg...

The chemical-gas dynamic mechanisms behind the instability and failure of a onedimensional pulsating detonation wave driven by a three-step chain-branching reaction are revealed by direct numerical simulation. Two types of pulsating instability observed experimentally are explained. The first involves regular oscillations of the detonation front, where the instability is driven by low-frequency...
